Feature: Designing characters and creatures + more
It is time to feature more tutorials and undiscovered art! :la: As usual, the feature will be divided. The first part includes tutorials on how to design characters and creatures, and the second part is a selection of artwork I’ve discovered recently with fewer than 50 favourites. Previous features are linked at the bottom of the journal, and I post a new feature each month on my profile, usually around the 15th :dummy: We'll start off with some guides on how to design human/humanoid characters. First, @Dinloss has an excellent walk-through of how to design the character themselves - their body, their hair, pose, and much more. However, the clothes and accessories of a character are also essential to their looks - which is covered more in-depth by @HANIICU and @Deamond-89, with one discussing functionality and style and the other cloth detailing, including how to draw those: Animal characters are a different beast, however =P Luckily, we have experts on the topic -
Hello everyone! (: The theme of the month is Cherry Blossoms - loved by many people! On this occasion, I would like to share the tutorial I prepared for you! The whole thing was done in Photoshop but I think you can easily repeat it in other programs and even with traditional media. Follow the steps and create your own artwork! Post your drawing on DeviantArt with the tag #CherryBlossomChallenge and get a Profile badge! You can upload your deviation using this link: https://www.deviantart.com/submit/?tags=cherryblossomchallenge - required tag will be added automatically! (: Let's start! I. Draw the first flower. Start by drawing a small circle with 5 lines extending from it. Now make a sketch of the petals of our flower. On the left side of the picture I show you how to draw it easily step by step. At this stage, it is worth focusing on the general arrangement of each element and not going into detail. Once the sketch is ready, we can create a new layer and start to make a

DevianTART: Lets get bready to crumble!
DeviantArt has been acquired again for a cool amount of dough and is being rebranded to DevianTART, home of the world’s largest online bakery and baking community. The acquisition was a long time coming, as bakers (formerly called deviants) have always had a passion for sharing their confectionery creations with the world! Top Off Your Treats As part of the rebranding efforts, bakers (formerly called deviants) are encouraged to put a delectable topping on bakes (formerly called deviations) that they love! When you find a bake (formerly called…you know what? You get the gist.) you think is good enough to eat, decorate it with Whipped Cream so it will look pristine in the bakery display. There’s enough Whipped Cream to last every baker until 11:59 PM Pacific Time on April 5th, so be sure to practice and perfect your piping by then! If you give 50 bakes or comments a Whipped Cream topping, you’ll receive a Baker’s Delight decoration for your bakery! The Great DevianTART

Black History Month has been an important and integral part of United States history for decades, and since inception, its importance and presence have branched out to other countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland. Black History Month is especially important and worthwhile to embrace and highlight when it comes to the arts, because Black creativity and culture have shaped current-day art in countless meaningful ways. While we cannot provide comprehensive information about Black history as a whole, we do want to provide some insight regarding the history of Black History Month and why it’s celebrated, current ongoings related to Black creatives, and general resources for continued education of Black history, both in general and specific to art. The History of Black History Month The original precursor to Black History Month was known as Negro History Week and was created in 1926 by author and historian Carter G. Woodson. Emphasis at its core was placed on
Sea otters will hold hands so they don’t drift apart from each other while they rest which might be the most precious thing ever. Did you know when they do this in a group it's called a raft? Since this month's theme is "Better Together" let’s draw a pair of snuggly sea otters! Follow along with my tutorial and post your result on DeviantArt with the tag #BetterTogetherTutorial to get this adorable badge for your profile! This tutorial is presented using digital media but can be done traditionally as well. Start off by drawing a heart! Roughly the same shape as the heart shaped candies you get around Valentine’s Day so not too narrow but also not too squat. Now inside the upper part of the heart on the left side, draw a big number 3. Do the same on the other side. You’ll have two kidney beans inside the heart. This is going to be the body of the two otters. Close off the upper part of the 3’s on both sides to represent the head of the otters. Now draw in a few loops at the
